Wave based horde games

With Call of Duty Black Ops 6 right around the corner I started thinking about horde modes in video games.

My love for round based horde modes started with Black Ops Zombies. The all nighters me and my buddies pulled just trying to get past our highest round, trying to complete the Easter eggs, and just the thoughtless gameplay that let you hang out without needing to try too hard. It’s something I find myself craving to come back to.

The game that most recently scratched this itch for me was Vampire survivors. It’s not the traditional wave based mode but it’s pretty close. Yet I still wasn’t as satisfied as I wanted to be. I thought about Halo Reach’s FireFight mode. Yeah it was simple and had no secrets, but that was the fun with it. I got the 3D action and mindless gameplay that I needed from it at the time. Playing with friends and just killing NPCs in a loop is exactly what I want after work now.

The information about zombies in BO6 has me hopefully that maybe I’ll have a game to scratch that itch again, but at the same time I want something new. I found myself asking “what series could this work with”? My conclusion is: Power Rangers

Think about it, really think and brainstorm what this game could look like. It could be a world where suddenly baddies from every series just start to show up. Instead of playing as rangers you play as people who come across Morphers. Instead of getting a gun off the wall you get a mighty morphin power rangers morpher. Now you’re running around looking like Tommy beating up goons when every couple of waves an actual monster of the week shows up. You run out of ammo, hit up a mystery box and BAM you’re a time force ranger.

This may just be rambling nonsense from a tired 20somthing, but I think it could work.
